Six in One, Half Dozen the Other.

Surgery number 3 in 4 months went well. I am going to have to give up my aspiring Hawaiian Tropic bikini modeling as I do not see any way they can airbrush 8 scars from my abdomen. Maybe with Photoshop I have a chance…

My surgery yielded 6 mature eggs. I am not sure how many they removed to get down to 6, but I will find out the details later. Dr. Letterie also said that my ovaries are in a really good place, and hopefully will be out of the radiation field. We will also find out how many of the six eggs fertilized well enough to be frozen by Monday.

Speaking of fertilization; Scott got to experience another room-of-romantic-explosion and the College Girls of Playboy! If a baby comes from all of this, it’ll make for an interesting story for the child…”You see, honey, your father was fantasizing about another woman in another room while mommy was having her insides aspirated. Then we flew you to another woman’s tummy where you grew for 9 months, we went on an extended vacation and then picked you up from the woman’s tummy after writing her a large check.” All in the name of selfish preservation of DNA.

Eggman cometh. How about Scott?

The big day is here. My estradiol levels are in check, my follicles are big and happy, Dr. Letterie is ready and so are we. By 1pm tomorrow, we will hopefully be the proud, potential parents of some embryos. I gave my self the trigger shot at 1am, Thursday morning and 36 hours later we have to go in and retrieve. Scott is primed and ready to go as well. While the eggs are gathered, Scott will need to provide the essential protein needed to complete this process. It’s like making a ham and egg omelet and Dr. Letterie, and team, are the chefs putting it all together. Hold the cheese please! After Scott’s nap, we will go home and recover. The next phase of this whole process begins on May 7.

36th Birthday Arrives as Drive For DNA Preservation Continues

If anyone had told me on my 18th birthday, half my age ago, that I would have cervical cancer, a radical hysterectomy, be going through IVF with cryopresevation, AND chemoradiotherapy by 36 I would have declared that person either a complete f*#kwit or high. But here I sit on the eve of my 36th birthday having gone through almost all of that and I think I am doing pretty well. Right now I am in the middle of ovarian stimulation which requires an injection of Gonal-F in the morning and Menopur in the evening. Soon that routine will change slightly, and so will the drugs, as the follicles (they want about 20) grow on my ovaries for retrieval on April 30th. I cannot even do the retrieval the “right” way either. That is going to require yet ANOTHER laparoscopic surgery to get the buggers. Keep in mind, fertility fans, that the NORMAL way to do this is to have ONE follicle mature, release, go down the fallopian tube into the uterus, and then actually have SEX to conceive. This baby-in-a-petri-dish process is going well enough, but is really bizarre on so many levels. Ask Scott about the porn offered at the office for his “test”. It’s a story only worthy of a conversation.

Anyone up for wagering?

According to this article, I am 3.5x more likely to suffer mental illness than I was before being introduced to cancer. Thanks Beth. You rock.
